The biggest women’s tournament in women’s mma history started tonight with two impressive wins at Bellator 24.

#1 ranked Megumi Fujii proved once again that she is the number one fighter in the division, as she defeated late minute replacement Carla Esparza at :57 seconds of round 2.

To Esparza’s credit, she was able to make most of the first round a kickboxing battle, but Megumi was able to get the takedown late in the round. After a lot of scrambling, Fujii was trying for several submission attempts until the bell. Fujii continued to work the submission game in the second, try her famous “Megu lock” leg submission first, than transition to the armbar for the win.

In the main event, #7 ranked Jessica Aguilar made her adoptive hometown proud by defeating #9 ranked Lynn “Lights Out” Alvarez by arm triangle choke at 4:01 of round one.

Alvarez kept it on the feet for the first part of the round, until Aguilar took her to the ground via a body lock. The rest of the match was Aguilar looking for the arm triangle choke and finally got it at 4:01.

Megumi Fujii will face the winner of #4 ranked Lisa Ward and #5 ranked 125 pounder Aisling Daly, who will face off at Bellator 26 in Kansas City in two weeks.

Jessica Aguilar faces the winner of #3 ranked 125 pounder Zoila Frausto vs. #5 ranked 115 pounder Jessica Pene at Bellator 25 in Chicago next week.
