A’ja Wilson, the 2020 WNBA MVP. | BreakingT
One round into the 2020 WNBA Playoffs and things got hot thanks to Alyssa Thomas (“Playoff A.T.”) and Shey Peddy (“So Peddy”). A’ja Wilson, the 2020 league MVP, has come up big in the semis. Can she power her Las Vegas Aces to a semifinals series lead on Thursday?
Shey Peddy nailed a 3-point dagger at the buzzer in Round 1 of the 2020 WNBA Playoffs to keep the Phoenix Mercury’s season alive. That she did it against the team that cut her during the regular season was the ultimate flex. Alyssa Thomas, meanwhile, played a well-rounded, hard-nosed game and flirted with a triple-double to get her Connecticut Sun into the second round.
Although So Peddy couldn’t will the Mercury past the second round, Playoff A.T. helped the Sun stun the Las Vegas Aces in in Game 1 of the the teams’ semifinals series. In spite of the Aces’ series-opening loss, A’ja Wilson played like the Most Valuable Player that she is and came on even stronger on Tuesday to help her team even the series.
Averaging 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per game this postseason, can she power Las Vegas to a series lead Thursday night?
The Seattle Storm have a 2-0 series lead over the Aces with a chance to sweep on Tuesday night for their second championship in three years. If the Aces can muster the defensive might to make it a series, it will be to the joy of WNBA fans. But whichever team wins — in Game 3 or 4 for the Storm or Game 5 for the Aces — women should be celebrated. And it’s even cooler to “Bet On Women” in your team’s favorite colors.
