When I said BC was without a “huge weapon,” aside from repeating the word ‘huge’ twice in two sentences and thus being in need of a thesaurus, was I being inaccurate?  After all, freshman phenom Carpenter is in the top 25 in scoring as well as starring for the U-18 American national team.  Yes and no, is my equivocal answer.  23 points in 19 games, including 12 goals, is impressive for a first year player at the break.  But Carpenter doesn’t rank first among young’uns, trailing heralded Kendall Coyne and essentially unremarked Rebecca Vint.  Yet she’s younger than both these players, and lacks the full national team experience of Coyne, and is holding her own.  Her team is better overall, which helps her succeed personally, but she also contributes to the team’s success.  BC is 9-1-1 when she scores a goal, and 4-4 when she does not.  Again, that’s a chicken-or-egg question, since perhaps on those days when she scored the Eagles were playing more effectively as a whole.  At the very least it points to Carpenter as the barometer of the team, a pressure-filled spot for someone of her age.  I think that she has almost unlimited upside if she continues to develop, however for me to define her as a dominant threat for BC’s opponents she will need to crack the top ten in an offensive category.
