One last final meet. The IAAF’s World Challenge circuit, and the entire one-day invitational season, ended yesterday with the Rieti Meeting. The headline results were from Kiwi shot putter Valerie Adams, Burundi’s newfound half-miler Francine Niyonsaba, and Russian high jumper Svetlana Shkolina. And French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre expressed disappointment with his season.
Did you know there’s a RunCzech.com running circuit? Kenyan Henry Kiplagat certainly does–he was runner-up three times on it this year, and finally broke through with a win at Prague’s Metro 10km Race (an IAAF Silver Label Road Race). Among his beaten foes was marathon world record holder Patrick Makau. The companion women’s 5k was won by Ethiopian Tadelech Bekele.
Ryan Hall has withdrawn from the New York City Marathon. He had been announced as part of this year’s elite US field, but the injuries that forced him to drop out of the Olympic marathon are apparently still bothering him.
Runner’s World interviews Neely Spence, the newly-minted pro who has joined the Detroit-area Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.
Scoring the World Championships and Olympics on an 8-7-6…basis, the top scorers in each event. The career leader across all events is veteran discus thrower Virgilius Alekna.
Track and Field News notes there will be five decisions required for wild card entries into next year’s Worlds. For the US, it sets up a nice hurdles showdown between Aries Merritt and Jason Richardson.

Beginning in 2014, the Heps (Ivy League) Championships slate of events will more closely follow that of the NCAA Championships.
