Well hello everyone! If you are doing a double take and wondering if this is really Kaayla blogging, no need to wipe your Sunday morning eyes. It is indeed Kaayla again. Wow, I have had such an amazing and busy summer. My months here in the states have flown by. I do not even know where to begin. Our new location of basketball camps was successful and showed promise for summers to come. The literacy and arts camps, in my opinion, were some of the best camps we have done over the last 6 years. Oh and I cannot forget that my sister is expecting my first niece, and that has been a job in itself. We should see her little face any day now.
I cannot believe that I only have 16 more days stateside before it is time for me to head back to work. Although the Spanish economy has really taken a hit, I was fortunate to get a good job in the city of Burgos. This city is about 2 hours outside of Madrid. I am very excited about playing another season in Spain. The team is coming up from the second division, so once again it will be an adjustment for some of our players. I do feel good knowing that besides me the team has signed some players who have been playing in the first division. That is experience that we will need. I have been working out like crazy and even am putting myself through a college preseason, just to make sure that I am ready to go. Those of you who have played college basketball know that preseason was probably some of the hardest workouts ever! A friend of mine is the Women’s Basketball strength and conditioning coach for Cleveland State University and has allowed me to join the women for preseason workouts. This was not an easy decision for me but I know in order to be in the best shape I can be in, this is what I needed. Keep wishing me luck everyone.
I wanted to give a special thanks to my friend Molly Creamer. Molly is a good friend of Women Talk Sports and mine. She allowed me to work with her and be a part of the Find The Courage Campaign, to promote standing up to bullying. I was able to introduce this program to our cultural arts camps. It was really good to see the camp confortable enough to want to talk about such a serious issue and even to go as far as opening up about close friends and personal experiences. I hope that everyone has courage to stand up to bullies and bullying.
Until next time everyone (I may be an aunt or in SpainJ)
KC
