Meeting President Obama

There's something to be said about experiencing a chance to meet the President of the United States, but having that chance twice in a lifetime, is something I will never forget.  In 2007, after we (the Phoenix Mercury) won the world championship, we had a chance to visit the White House and meet President Bush!(sidenote: the Charlotte Sting folded the year before and I got picked up by Phoenix in the dispersal draft. Pretty amazing how things happen!)  This weekend, we did the same!  My father Louis and I got in the car and drove down to DC to meet up with the Mercury who flew in for this special day.

You never know exactly what to expect, but we had a chance to take the White House tour, smiled over and over for pictures, all awaiting that moment where Obama comes out to congratulate us on winning yet another title in 2009.  Its truly been a remarkable experience being on a team to win two world titles in three years, and on top of that, meeting the President. It's just a moment and experience you can't really put into words.

For me, it has been a summer of change, rehabbing, and not being around a team setting, which I'm very used to.  I've been playing year round for six years, so being at home has been quite an eye opening experience. Nonetheless, being around the Mercury and seeing familiar faces was something that put a smile on my face, and getting that bling bling of another ring wasn't too bad either! :)
