As women’s wrestling expands in the colliagte system, so does it among secondary schools. New York City’s demand for a girls’ wrestling program has culminated in them introducing a league this March.

New York’s Public School Athletic League (or PSAL) will have 16 school teams of 15-20 female wrestlers that will compete in duels, culminating in a city championship tournament. PSAL is partnering with Beat the Streets wrestling program to take on this venture. They did a borough-based test run last year with five teams.

New York becomes the 6th state to hold school sanctioned women’s wrestling events. The first duel is set for March 4.
