Wombat sports is dedicated to women in combat sports. Former news editor of “Fightergirls” MarQ Piocos has been covering Women’s MMA for over three years, having picked up coverage of wrestling, boxing, and grappling. A new champ was crowned Friday night as Jillian Lybarger (4-4) defeated Jordan Gaza (3-2) for the Tuff-n-uff Amateur MMA 115 pound title.
After some pummeling against the cage in the first round; Lybarger was taken down by Gaza in the second. Lybarger reversed the position, got the mount, and unleashed ground and pound to get the stoppage at 2:16 of round 2. Ken Shamrock presented Lybarger with the title.
In the other women’s contest, Brigett Batch and Samantha Mosqueda in what could have been match of the night. Great striking throughout and Mosqueda stuffing a lot of Batch’s takedowns. Mosqueda would get the unanimous decision.
Tuff-n-uff will return in January.
