Round five of the WMX series started with a dramatic first heat today, as runner up in the Championship Stephanie Laier won while series leader Livia Lancelot pulled out with a dislocated right shoulder.
In an incredible time practice session Larissa Papenmeier wrapped up the pole ahead of German compatriot Maria Franke, as both of them clocked exactly the same laptime with 2 minutes 14.809 seconds. Laier, Nathalie Kane and Elin Mann completed the top five while Lancelot ended eighth. The defending Champion injured her right shoulder last week during training and she came to Teutschenthal in pain only to try and defend her Championship.
Once the gate dropped and moto one started it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier to lead the pack into the first corner with Papenmeier and Kawasaki Racing’s Lancelot following.
The latter did not last long as her troublesome shoulder popped out right after she was overtaken by Kane. Then the Championship leader slipped and had to be taken to the hospital for a medical check, as she is likely to miss the second heat tomorrow.
Laier and Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Papenmeier just pulled away from the rest of the field to take first and second respectively, while Kane of MRV-D Suzuki followed from a distant third.
Franke and Mann ended the top five.
