Perhaps you've heard of the saying, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." Well, in regards to my covering my assigned beats (Washington and Storm) to the chagrin of some vocal folks on this site and via e-mail who wanted me to write about Stanford or the NCAA women's Final Four overall, I offer the above.

What more can be said about Connecticut? Aside from they almost choked and if Stanford C Jayne Appel (pictured right by Getty Images) were healthy, they wouldn't have completed the dream streak. Appel had an injection early in the second halfin order to continue playing.

But that's not nice, right? Sounds a little like sour grapes from Napa Valley, Calif. So I tried not to muck up the glory floating in from the East. Plus, some things you just have to sit back and watch.

The UConn love-in started in December when the Huskies defeated the Cardinal by 12 points in their home state and I thought Doris Burke was going to have a coronary if Stanford didn't brick all of those second-half shots to allow the commentator to continue with her Connecticut extol. (Seriously ESPN, can we have one analyst NOT from the New England area next year?)

Thank goodness UConn coach Geno Auriemma already verbally submitted his resignation to ESPN so the media can add pressure by starting the clock on his departure. Auriemma stated he's not returning in January if his team is still undefeated by the end of December.

"It will be pointless," he explained to announcer Mark Schwarz. "I will just lose all respect for everybody coaching college basketball in this country."

Ah, please somebody beat this guy?

The Huskies finished their remarkable season on Tuesday at 78 consecutive wins behind one of the most exciting players ever in Maya Moore. But without Charles and Kalana Greene to back her up on the court, the Huskies could stumble through next year's preseason.

And reaching UCLA's historic 88 wins won't be easy with preseason games against Stanford, Ohio State, Duke, Oklahoma and Baylor. Yet, we have an entire seven months to talk about that.

For now, congratulations to Connecticut for putting women's basketball in the spotlight and on to the Storm, beginning with the WNBA draft on Thursday. But even that will circle around Connecticut as Charles will be drafted No. 1 to the Sun and the Storm may nab Greene (if the Sun don't take her after today's trade with Tulsa).
