Finally it is time to ask, "Who should be Wonder Woman?" And to your left (also here) you'll see a fancy (garish?) new poll where you can respond with your vote. There are, to begin with, ten candidates from which to make your choice. These women are, in the main, plausible and impeccably qualified; but the list also shuns banality. For example, it includes two world-class athletes (Gina Carano and Natalie Coughlin), the selection of either of whom to don the costume would set in place a grand message for young women.
But there is room for more, so (sensible) nominations are welcome. You can leave a comment here, or send in your suggestion by email.

I wouldn't normally comment on my own post, but I am curious how many here, on WTS, think Natalie Coughlin could make a superb Wonder Woman? Coughlin's features fit the bill in many ways--tall, athletic, blue eyes--and she looks at home in front of the camera; e.g., her stint on DWTS.
For years male athletes have been successfully transforming into film and television action stars (Johnny Weissmuller, Steve Reeves, Jim Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne Johnson...). In addition, there is even one notable precedent for a champion female swimmer wanting to make the transition: Esther Williams.
It almost goes without saying that athletic girls would be inspired and emboldened by a Wonder Woman who is in real-life a champion athlete. But what is more, she could change everyone's perception of female athletes toward the better.
Your thoughts, fellow WTS contributors?

I think Natalie would make a great Wonder Woman! She has that fierce look and attitude. She gets my vote.

Ann: Agreed. Natalie has the fierce but regal bearing you'd expect from a heroine who is demigoddess, princess, and warrior. While established athletic actresses who are plenty capable (eg, Jessica Biel) can be found, the significance of having an Olympian like Natalie in this influential role can't be overstated.
I should also add that there are--as it stands now--two more champions on the candidate list: Gina Carano and Rebecca Neuenswander. All very real possibilities, I think.
