Ah yes, camping in the great outdoors. Gourmet meals, pillow-top mattresses, fine linens, spa services and master bathrooms (with toilets that flush). Talk about being one with nature. This counts, doesn’t it?
It does if you’re into glamping – the latest trend in glamorous camping according to today’s WSJ. High-fashion “camp sites” are popping up all over the world, and with today’s economy, they seem to be a perfect solution for people who love to travel and experience Mother Nature without the expense – and the dirt, leaking tents, showerless days, warm coolers and cans of unmentionables for meals.
Think luxury meets fresh air. Think butlers with fluffy towels. Think restaurants and fireplaces and hot tubs and saunas. Oh my.
Aside from the obvious benefits here, the environment benefits too. Popular glamping sites are not construction style buildings that require clearing trees and animals from their homes. Instead, they are more like bungalow-style “tents” nestled in nature. Many feature eco-friendly recycling programs, organic gardens, reused rainwater and solar energy. Convenience, comfort and pampering describe these adventure sites. Sign me up!
Speaking of adventure, while I do consider myself a Cool Adventure Girl, I do not think “adventure” means having to sleep on the ground and relieve ourselves in self-dug holes. At least I hope not because that is something I will not do. Just ask my husband. I love anything outdoors — trail runs, mountain biking, swimming, fresh air, sunshine, stars, cool breezes, etc. I just don’t want franks and beans and bugs and dirt for dinner. I admit it — I am a Cool Adventure Girl with parameters. Think less of me if you want, but I’ll be snuggled up in my king-sized bed with visions of red wine, pasta and pedicures dancing in my head.
If you decide to glamp, let me know – maybe I’ll glamp with you. Here are a few places to check out:

I went glamping a couple weeks ago at El Capitan Canyon in Santa Barbara. Definitely a site to add to your list.
