OLYMPIC BOXING HOPEFULS UNDERWOOD AND SHEILDS WINS PRELIM BOUTS

Shields Underwood Two of the three U.S. womenandrsquo;s boxing team members haveandnbsp;conqueredandnbsp;their first hurdles on their way to the London Olympic Games. Queen Underwood and Claressaandnbsp;Shields won their first bouts in the preliminary round at the AIBA Womenandrsquo;s Worldandnbsp;Championshipsandnbsp;inandnbsp;andnbsp;China Saturday. Underwood defeated Dayana Sanchez ofandnbsp;Argentina 24-13 in the 60 KG weight class, while Shields defeatedandnbsp;andnbsp;Pooja Rani of India 27-10 in the 75 KG weight class. Both make the field of 32; and with two more win, they will qualify for the Olympics. Shieldsandnbsp;will face Englandandrsquo;s Savannah Marshall, and Underwood will face New Zealandandrsquo;s Alexis Pritchard. Both bouts will be on Monday. WOMEN'S AMATEUR BOXING IN IRELAND

Irish boxer Kelly Harrington is the latest boxer to decide that all-women's sparring days are the way forward. Harrington has competed at Senior Amateur level for Ireland. The Irish women's team trains in Dundalk, in the north of the country. Between travel-times and family commitments, Harrington says it's not always accessible for boxers in other parts of the country. FIGHTER HEATHER CLARK TO MAKE PRO-BOXING DEBUT APRIL 28

Another pro MMA fighters will be making the crossover to the sweet science. Golden Girl Promotions have announced Wednesday that Jackson MMAandrsquo;s Heather Clark will be making her boxing debut on their Apr. 28 card at the Santa Ana Star Casino in Albuquerque, NM. She will be facing Chaveria Jack. Clark and#40;4-2 MMAand#41; is coming off a doctor stoppage loss to Marianna Kheyfets at XFC MMA this past month. She already trains has some of the best female boxers in the U.S., including Holly Holm and Jodie Esquible. She has two KOs in her pro record.
