SLC DEW TOUR…THAT’S A WRAP

My overall impression of the Salt Lake Dew Tour was awesome. I witnessed crazy people, young and old throwing themselves through the air in a variety of sports. Truly amazing talent on display. The Dew Tour does a great job of keeping each day different and interesting and the village has stuff for everyone to get involved and#40;food, beer, sponsor booths, local booths, skate demos, the list goes on!and#41;. The one and only bummer of the whole event was the female involvement of the Summer Dew Tour. Ladies were definitely well represented in the crowd and at least half of the staff running the event were women. However, the glaring lack of women was amongst the competitors. We need to get girls more involved in these summer sports for sure! They are killing it in the snowboard world but not in the skate or BMX, at least for the Dew Tour. The Salt Lake Dew Tour was a great event and so glad it happened in this town. We tip our hat again to the state of Utah for being the only place that [Read More]

BMX GAMES – THE OTHER SIDE

There has been a lot of talk recently about how horrible it was to have the womenandrsquo;s vert cut from X Games Seventeen. There have been blogs, petitions, movies and more to rally along the girls of skate to reclaim the event. Although this year was absent the vert, next year will see the addition of womenandrsquo;s park for the skate girls, 90% sure. However, there is a group of riders with even less. They work as hard as the skaters and have never had a contest, so to all of you out there behind girls in action sports, check out the women of BMX. Camila Harambour and Mini Park traveled from Korea and Argentina to X Games this year to be present and build the voice for girls at this event. A proposal was sent to X Games earlier this year and the process has begun. These athletes are traveling from around the world and are not even provided a demo at X Games. Not yetandhellip; Camila, Mini, along with Angie Marino, Nina Buitrago and Jessica Ausec had an autograph sessio [Read More]

FDV CLOTHING FROM NIKITA

FDV Clothing Co. was started by Nikita Ducarroz, an 8th grader from California. It is a clothing company based out of Sonoma County. We have been around for about a year now, and will hopefully be around for many more years to come. The inspiration behind FDV Clothing Co. is BMX. I started it because of BMX, all the ideas for it came from BMX. We also support any other kind of biking sport. All of our designs come from riders and we are just about riding and having fun. All the money we make goes either back into buying products, or gets donated to help BMX related causes. We have a flow team, and a pro team. We currently do not have any girls on the team, but I am hoping in the future, we can get a girls team going. Our goals for the year are to get some new products out and#40;hats, tank tops, and more tshirtsand#41;. We want to attend as many events as we can to spread the word about FDV, and possibly even put on a local jam with out friends Lil Mikey Beeswax and#40;A BMX w [Read More]

MARINO TALKS BMX ON BIKE

What do you think is the big thing holding female riding back? Not from X Games but as a whole. Participation? Public perception? A lot of girls are a bit timid, no one ever really wants to step up to the plate and speak up. I know Nina has been doing it for years now, but she seems to be retiring from trying to get girl comps and such. There are a lot of talented girls out there and itandrsquo;s really cool to see them come together. A lot of the girls have been attending the BMX Masters for the past couple years and itandrsquo;s a great turn out. I think more girls need to also go to the smaller contests so then bigger ones will want to have us as well. What do you want to see out of the X Games event? I believe they did a female demo before that everybody loved and people are wondering why thereandrsquo;s no competition. Are you looking for a serious, competitive event? To be honest, the BMX girls are not looking for money, we are just looking for a chance to be a part of X Games and b [Read More]
