If so, you don't want to miss the chance to read her new memoir, "On The Line" out in stores on Sept. 1st. And for five lucky Women Talk Sports winners - the book is free!

One of the biggest stars in tennis, Serena Williams has succeeded on and off the court. She's applied the same strength and determination that helped her to become a champion to successful pursuits in philanthropy, fashion, television and film.

Serena's 2009 Australia Open championship earned her the #1 world ranking for the third time in her illustrious career - and marked only the latest exclamation point on a life lived well and purposefully.

Her accomplishments have not been without struggle: being derailed by injury, devastated by the tragic shooting of her older sister, and criticized for her unorthodox approach to tennis. Yet somehow, Serena always manages to prevail.

Learn more about this extraordinary athlete by winning a copy of her new book "On The Line." Literary Minded, charts her literary loves, life and adventures on Crikey, an Aussie showcase for independent journalism. When I came across this post, I asked whether she'd be willing to share it with WTS readers and she was happy to oblige. js)

Mischa Merz on Brusing: a Boxer's Story by Angela Mayer

In Bruising, passionate boxer Mischa Merz draws you into her experiences of a sweaty, oft-bloody, myth- and history-loaded, predominantly masculine but ever-progressing sport. I first came across Mischa’s work in the extract of this book published in Overland. It had been my favourite piece in the issue, and when Mischa heard, she sent me a copy of the memoir, which has just been expanded by Vulgar Press for re-release. I was captivated start-to-finish by Mischa’s motivations; intellectual discussions and philosophies; experiences training, sparring and in the ring; descriptions of the tough, complex and diverse characters around her o...

Win a Sweet Spot Golf Putter for yourself or your Mom for Mother's Day!

Mother's Day is not only about giving gifts -- it's about getting gifts, too.

Some do it as a form of fitness, others to keep the heart young and the soul inspired. And then there are those like me, who hike as a prelude to wine tasting.

On Sunday I had the good fortune to join a group of great LA gals for an afternoon aptly titled Women, Wine and Walking.

Organized by the incomparable Julie Brosterman of Women & Wine and sponsored by Clif Family Winery (yes the Clif Bar Clif family) the afternoon was a perfect blend of great company, great weather, great food and great wine - and the walking part was pretty great too.

I brought my basketball buddy BJ and we joined about 20 other women for a medium paced scramble through Temescal Canyon. Located in Pacific Palisades (where the mountains meet the ocean), Temescal Park is one of the most popular spots in the Santa Monica Mountains with great views of the Pacific, a seasonal waterfall, and a densely wooded canyon.
