Heraea Marketing, LLC announced today that professional rugby athlete Phaidra Knight has signed with Heraea Marketing as her sport marketing agency.

"We are so thrilled to have Phaidra choose our 'niche' organization to represent her," said Gig Rock, Owner/Founder of Heraea Marketing. Our organization is designed for the professional female athlete exclusively and we are building a roster of great athletes, adding Phaidra is so exciting.

About Phaidra Knight: Phaidra holds the honor of being the Best Female Rugby Player of the Decade..wow! She is currently training to represent the United States on the women's bobsled team at the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. She has traveled around the world as a professional rugby player, establishing herself as one of the premiere players in the sport. She made three appearances in the Rugby World Cup, was selected as member of the All World Team...

Sponsorships ~ Endorsements ~ Investment = HUGE Differences

SPONSORSHIPS / ENDORSEMENTS/ INVESTING what is the difference and how Heraea Marketing is making a difference.

Sponsorships ~ This has been an all time favorite for the past several decades. A company drops a lot of money on an athlete and in return many fans will see their product and hopefully purchase that item the athlete showcases, from apparel to watches to sunglasses, the list is endless. But is the actual return on the sponsorship investment worth it?

Endorsements ~ Another favorite, but I'm inclined to believe a little more productive when spending money. A company uses an athlete to do commercials for their products, they have them speak at conventions, events, about how that company's product helped them and the list goes on. But what is the return on this type of endorsement for the company?

Investing ~ I like to think of this as more than putting your money on an athlete; it's putting your money on an athlete as a partner. You receive an ...

Twelve-year-old, Caroline Pia, Wins Her Crusade to Play Football on Catholic Youth Team

It was a huge Title IX victory in Pennsylvania this morning, as a 12-year-old girl from Philadelphia won her crusade to play football for a Catholic Youth team.

Caroline Pia, who has played organized football since kindergarten and for the past two years was an All Star guard and defensive end, was told last fall the no-girls rule would be enforced in her Bucks County league.

The player and her family petitioned the archdiocese, leading to Thursday’s decision from Archbishop Charles J. Chaput and a reversal of the rule.

“It’s a great step for the future of the church,” said Caroline’s mother, Marycecelia Pla of Doylestown. “Archbishop Chaput is starting with young girls, who are the future of the church, and I thank him for it.”

The Plas had taken their fight to the media, with frequent interviews and TV appearances including the Ellen Degeneres show. But they were not hopeful given their exchanges with the church officials, who h...

Female Kicker Blazes Trail at NFL Regional Combine

Lauren Silberman, a 28-year-old from New York City, will make history March 2 when she becomes the first female to ever participate in a regional NFL Draft Combine according to NFL.com .

Silberman, who has kicked a 40 yard field goal but never played competitive football, will tryout as a kicker. This is a story that could have been ripped from the pages of one of our books Playing with Boys (Pretty Tough #2) is about a female soccer player who makes the varsity squad of her highschool football team.

At the University of Wisconsin Silberman played club soccer, then went the very non-traditional pro sports route of attending MIT and writing a master’s thesis about athletes using video games as performance enhancers. She has since started a company called Double Play that aims to aid athletes through video game use.

Other collegiate kickers will be competing against Silberman in the New Jersey regional, and Silberman had this...

Just for women sports 24/7 coming our way

Heraea Marketing is starting to gain some traction and is being recognized for supporting female athletes exclusively. They do not promote any men nor do they showcase any male sports.

“We understand there is a fundamental need to promote and support the professional female athlete exclusively”, says Gigi Rock, Owner and Founder of Heraea Marketing. Other women sports websites and social media venues claim they support female athletes and I’m sure they do in their own way; however they still showcase the male athlete over the female, even if it’s giving a proverbial high-five to the male athlete. We just don’t do that, as a matter of fact we have turned down several male athletes in promoting them.

In November 2012, this exclusive female sports site quietly announced its existence to the social media venues and is now working with ...

The Bowl According to Shelly

News that NFL veteran Junior Seau, who committed suicide last year, suffered from degenerative brain disease was hardly a revelation.

We paused, saddened, on Thursday when the National Institutes of Health announced that Seau’s brain revealed evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy – the result of absorbing frequent blows to the head.

I love watching this game, but lately, it’s rattling my conscience. Is football becoming like foie gras or fur – with such ugly downsides that consuming feels cruel?

Seau is not the first former NFL player for whom head blows have wrought catastrophic outcomes. Concern has been mounting, not just about concussions, but also about the still-unknown long-term traumatic effects of a game that has grown more violent (tackling has given way to hitting), despite feints at making it safer. For good reason NY Times columnist Joe Nocera last month asked: Should Kids Play Football?

All of this national media attention being foisted on my hometown team, after a regular season of obsessing over the Giants, Jets, Redskins, Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles and Packers — and more or less in that order — is making me very, very nervous.

The Atlanta Falcons have home field advantage in the NFC playoffs, which is anxiety-producing enough. Now the team known more for its litany of losing and the sordid Vick-Petrino saga is in the crosshairs of a sporting press that’s fixated on a singular theme — why success has eluded the Falcons recently.

Yes, the Falcons haven’t won a playoff game under current coach Mike Smith (0-3), who became the franchise’s winningest coach during the regular season.

And so the headlines have gone like this:

• “Falcons hope for something different, a playoff win” — Gee thanks, Atlanta-based CNN and Terence Moore, my former AJC colleague

• “Russell Wilson tops Matt Ryan ...
