Trotter has had a successful career starting at the University of Tennessee where she became a national champion. In 2007 she won the American (USATF) championship in the 400m in a personal best time of 49.64. She placed 5th in the 400m and was part of the gold winning 4X400m team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Off the track she is the founder of Test Me I'm Clean, a charity dedicated to combating the abuse of performance-enhancing drugs.
