Race: Lashinda Demus wins 400mH gold - 2011 Track & Field Worlds

Demus was introduced to track and field as a toddler. In 1999 and 2001, Track and Field News named her the national girl's High School Athlete of the Year. In 2001, she set a high school in the 300m hurdles. She took her talents to the University of South Carolina. She was part of the NCAA national winning squad her freshman season. 

While at South Carolina, she took home wins in the world Junior Championship (2002), the NCAA Indoor Championship at 400m (2004), a national title and a silver medal in the 2005 World Championships.

In 2009 she won the USA Outdoor Championships in the 400m hurdles. In 2011, she won the World Championships, setting a new American Record. At the 2012 Olympic Trials, Demus won the heat in 53.98, earning a spot to the Olympic Games in London.
