Boxing – Saccurato to Face Muay Thai’s Shevchenko for Vacant WIBA title

Saccurato was in a devestating car accident in 1995. Doctors told her she would never walk again. She underwent an intense rehabilitation program and went on to not only walk, but play basketball and volleyball for Seton Hall University. She started her amateur boxing career in 1999. During her amateur career she took home a silver medal at the 2000 USA Boxing National Championships (156lb division) and won the 2001 NY and US National Golden Gloves. She made her professional debut at the Wonderland Ballroom in Revere in May 2002. In 2007, Saccurato faced Holm. The intense match-up was televised on the Fox Sports Network's "Best Damn Sports Show Period" bringing network coverage back to women's boxing. In 2007, Saccurato took home the WBC Lightweight title. In her next match, to defend her title, Saccurato relied on an all-female corner which included Melissa Hernandez and Belinda Laracuente. In 2009, she again won the WBC Lightweight title. Saccurato is also a personal trainer, who works with performance and after-care athletes, as well as PT and rehabilitation patients.
