Patricia "Peanut" Manuel started boxing as a way to shed the weight she gained as an inactive teenager. Her athleticism and competitiveness took her to the next level in the sport. Her career started off slowly, as she lost her first three fights. In 2006, things took a turn. She was a finalist at the US National Championships in the 132lb weight division. She also became the British Columbia Golden Gloves Champion and the BCGG "Golden Girl". Also in 2006 she became the National Women's Golden Gloves Champion in the 132lb division, the Ringside World Championships Champ, USA Boxing Female Athlete of the Month (July) and the National PAL Champion. In 2008 she took home the gold at the California Golden Gloves Championships, the Southern California Golden Gloves "Best Female Boxer" award, and became the National Women's Golden Gloves Champion. Her success continued in 2009 when she took home gold at USA Nationals and was a silver medalist at the Women's Pan American Champioinships. In 2010 she was a USA National Championship finalist in the 132lb division. She has qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games. These are the first Olympic Games with women's boxing as a competition. Manuel will be one of the first women to represent US at the Games. Manuel is also an active member in the LGBT community and aims to use boxing to make LGBT rights visible.
